Writing I

 

Course Objectives:-

 

Students in this course are first introduced to different writing environments, which are intellectually stimulating, but not beyond students' lexical, grammatical, or syntactic competence. Students will be dealing with carefully selected grammatical structures suitable for beginners and advanced level to write sentences, paragraphs and short compositions new lexical items through reading materials  to enable students to grasp them properly.

 

 

Course Content:-

 

Students will be introduced to a wide range of writing tasks developed to reflect the nature of the written language. These tasks are divided into four parts within each chapter. The fist part (Before You Write) deals with exploring and then organizing ideas. The second part (Write) teaches developing cohesion and style. The third part (Edit and Revise) helps editing for content and form. The fourth part (A Step Beyond) is an expansion of activities from the real world.

 

 

Attainable Skills:-

 

After dealing with a variety of different exercises in generating ideas and actual writing, students are expected to have built a repertoire of vocabulary, grammar, and ideas, that will enable them to practice their writing skills.

 

 

Methods of Assessment:-

 

Besides frequent quizzes & assignments (20 Marks), students will be given two major exams (20+20 Marks) & a final  exam (40 Marks).
